Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another public health bulletin for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).
The submission file is in OpenOffice, Microsoft Word, or RTF document file format.
Where available, URLs for the references have been provided.
The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses); and all illustrations, figures, and tables are placed within the text at the appropriate points, rather than at the end.
The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

Artificial Intelligence and Authorship

AI Policy

The Health Press acknowledges the increasing use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research and manuscript preparation. Authors must disclose the use of AI-assisted technologies in their work.

AI Disclosure Requirements

  • Authors must disclose any use of AI tools in manuscript preparation.
  • Disclosure should include specific AI tools (e.g., ChatGPT, Grammarly, etc.) used and their purpose
  • AI tools cannot be listed as authors or co-authors
  • Authors are responsible for the accuracy and integrity of AI-assisted content
  • AI-generated text must be carefully reviewed and edited by human authors

Authorship Criteria

Only human contributors who meet standard authorship criteria can be listed as authors. AI tools do not meet these criteria as they cannot:

  • Take responsibility for the work
  • Contribute to intellectual content
  • Approve the final version
  • Be accountable for the accuracy and integrity

ZNPHI Clearance Policy

For research conducted in Zambia or involving Zambian institutions, authors must ensure compliance with ZNPHI's clearance and ethical approval requirements.

Required Clearances

  • Research ethics clearance from appropriate authorities
  • ZNPHI institutional clearance for public health research
  • Data sharing and confidentiality agreements
  • Collaboration agreements where applicable
